Alfred McNamara was a native of Staten Island, New York. He studied in the 1930s under Werner Drewes, through a program at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, which was sponsored by the Works Project Administration. He also studied at the New York Industrial School of Art. Exhibitions include those at the Brooklyn Museum, Salmagundi Club, Newark Art Club, and the Staten Island Museum.
