Chris Huntington is a painter, folk art collector, dealer, and curator. After moving to Maine, he became the first curator at the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville. Inspired by masters of the rugged Maine coast, Huntington spent much of the 1960s and 1970s painting on the islands of Monhegan and Matinicus. Stylistically, he was following in the footsteps of others, such as George Bellows and Robert Henri. In the 1990s, he began to explore more of the interior of the state, working around Shin Pond and the Mount Katahdin range. His work has been acquired by several public collections, including the Farnsworth Art Museum and the Portland Museum of Art.
