Duncan E. Slade was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and served as a marine in WWII, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism as a pilot in the South Pacific theatre. After years working in Connecticut, he finally followed his dreams of a career in painting, moving to Maine, where he taught art at Oxford Hills Junior High School. A contemporary realist, he captured the places and events of ordinary people in Maine going about their daily lives.
