Elena Jahn completed a bachelor of fine arts at Syracuse University and an MFA at the University of Wisconsin.  A Fulbright Scholarship allowed her to continue her studies in Paris.  At the age of 10, her family began to spend time on Monhegan Island, sparking her already latent artistic tendencies.  From 1966 to 1976, she lived and worked in Rhode Island, and was a co-founder there of the women’s HERA Cooperative Gallery in Wakefield.  Jahn then moved to Brunswick, Maine, later dividing her time between Monhegan Island and Culebra, Puerto Rico.  She painted and traveled widely, and her work was included in many exhibitions, including a solo show at the Portland Museum of Fine Art’s Maine Perspective series in 1991, which included work from both Monhegan and Puerto Rico.  She also taught at various college and university art departments.
