Born in the Bronx, Joseph Amarotico studied at the American Art School in New York with Raphael Soyer, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art with Hobson Pittman, Walter Stuempfig, and Theodor Siegl. His geometric abstractions, built from simple shapes, evoke a surrealistic quality, his titles teasing the mind with the likes of Architectural Fantasy and Dream Castle. He exhibited regularly at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts between 1959 and 1969. Other museum exhibitions include the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the American Federation of Arts. He was represented by Mickelson Gallery in Washington, DC, and at Pearl Fox Galleries in Philadelphia. His work is in the permanent collection of the Pennsylvania Academy.
