Italian born painter Oronzo Gasparo studied with Preston Dickinson at the National Academy of Design in New York. Over time, Dickinson became a mentor to him, greatly influencing his stylistic development. Gasparo worked for the WPA during the Depression, and exhibited in the very highly regarded 1939 World’s Fair in New York. He showed his work widely throughout his life, including exhibitions at the Salons of America, Society of Independent Artists, Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, as we’ll as at several galleries in Italy. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
