Massachusetts artist Abbott Fuller Graves studied still life painting in Paris at the Academie Julian. He settled in New England, where a large part of his work depicted the lush and flower filled gardens around him; often these scenes included women of leisure enjoying those gardens. He maintained a studio in New York, and also purchases a house in Kennebunkport, Maine. He was a member of numerous art associations, including the Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists of America, National Arts Club, Copley Society, and the Boston Art Club. He won numerous awards and prizes in exhibitions, and received four solo shows of his work at Vose Galleries in Boston. His paintings were included in exhibitions at both Macbeth and Babcock Galleries in New York.
