Alexander Brook was born in Brooklyn, New York, and studied with Kenneth Hayes Miller at the Art Students League.  It was there that he met a number of modern leaning artists, including Reginald Marsh, Niles Spencer, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, and Peggy Bacon; he and Bacon married in 1920.  They divorced twenty years later, and Bacon married the artist Gina Knee.  With Knee he lived in Savannah, Georgia, and finally in Sag Harbor, New York.  Brook was a member of the Society of Independent Artists and the Woodstock Art Association.  He was represented by the Frank Rehn Gallery, Knoedler Galleries, and most notably, by Edith Halpert’s Downtown Gallery, all in New York.  In addition to fifteen one man shows, he exhibited extensively at major art museums across the country, winning numerous prizes and awards.
